Toronto Raptors young star
RJ Barrett was touched by the reception he received
while facing his former side
New York Knicks in the NBA 2023-24 season.
The 23-year-old recently moved to his new franchise before
the start of the ongoing season and played his former side on Thursday.
Barrett received a tribute video from the fans of the Knicks
which left him all emotional and while talking to the media, he admitted that
it was fun playing against the old friends.
“It was amazing,” he said. “Thank you to the fans. We got a
tribute video. Didn’t think we’d get that. Very appreciative of my time here.
Had a lot of emotions. It was fun to play basketball again here. We were hyped,
having fun. Playing against your friends is always fun.”
Barrett was not the only one who was having fun while
playing in the contest as Julius Randle of the Knicks also admitted to having a
‘special relationship’ with the youngster.
“Those guys are special to me,” he said. “It’s a special
relationship. …they taught me about leadership, how to carry myself, how to be
open, how to be honeost. Those are things I didn’t necessarily having coming
in. I was more of a lead by example, play hard every night. Those guys brought
out a different side of me.”
