NBA Trade Deadline: After a slow start to the season, the Los Angeles Clippers are one of the best teams in the Western Conference. The team has greatly improved its roster and playoff changes with the addition of James Harden, who has somehow brought the entire team closer together.
Because of their big move to acquire Harden, as well as the contracts of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, the team is strapped for cash. This means they might be limited with the number of trades they can make before the NBA deadline on February 8.
But there are few options laid before them that they could pursue. Most notably, they could find a way to send away PJ Tucker, who hasn't done much for the team since coming over with Harden a few months ago. Additionally, they could make packages around Mason Plumlee's expiring contract as well as Brandon Boston, Kobe Brown, and Bones Hyland.
nbBeyond that, the Clippers will be short of options because they are already committed to $171 million for next year's roster and that doesn't even count what they will owe Harden.
HoopsHype notes that a few players, such as Kelly Olynyk, could be an inexpensive acquisition that could help them upgrade on Tucker. However, with their recent success and their lack of money, it's very possible that the Clippers won't make any moves until the offseason.
The Los Angeles Clippers now have a 26-14 record and are the fourth seed in the West. However, they are just 3.5 games behind the top-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves.
