NBA
Trade Deadline:
Los Angeles Lakers, just weeks after winning the first NBA In-Season Tournament, are in a tough spot and are currently the 10th seed in the West. Most people assume that they will be aggressive on the trade market before the upcoming February 8 deadline.
But their options aren't that vast because they are adamant about holding onto fan favorite guard
Austin Reaves. As noted by HoopsHype, their insistence on keeping Reaves means they can't put together deals with many other teams.
Reaves is youthful, talented, and driven, which is very attractive to multiple teams across the league. However, the Lakers are holding onto Reaves.
They are willing to offer other teams
D'Angelo Russell, however. He has been attached to multiple trade
rumors, including one for
Dejounte Murray of the Atlanta Hawks. The fact that the Lakers are including Russell in these trade talks means that the guard's days in Los Angeles may be coming to an end for the second time in his career. However, will Russell be enough for a one-for-one swap with the Hawks?
The Lakers are hoping to land a proven, well-known player before the deadline. Murray is certainly on their list, as is Bruce Brown, currently of the Toronto Raptors. They have limited assets that they can send beyond Russell but other players like Gabe Vincent and Rui Hachimura have been spoken about as possible assets in any upcoming deal.
The Lakers suffered a very tough, surprising loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Friday night. That defeat reignited calls from the fanbase for a big trade as soon as possible.
