Marcus Smart has been with the
Memphis Grizzlies since the start of the season has averaged 14.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 4.3 assists despite missing out on multiple games because of injuries. But the team is in turmoil and sitting toward the bottom of the Western Conference standings and could make a change.
Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports is now reporting that the
Milwaukee Bucks and
Los Angeles Lakers are among the teams who have reached out to the Grizzlies about a potential trade for Smart. However, the Grizzlies have apparently shut down any and all interest in trading away Smart.
The former Defensive Player of the Year was sent to Memphis last summer in exchange for two first-round picks and Tyus Jones. He was signed through the 2025-26 season on a four-year, $77 million deal.
Smart joined the Grizzlies at a very interesting time, as the team was preparing to start the year without Ja Morant, who was sitting out due to a 25-game suspension from the league. At the time, it was assumed that Smart would be a starting player for the team, lending him their experience and expertise, especially when it came to playing in the postseason.
Additionally, there was hope that Smart could help mentor Morant when he returned to the league and help keep him on the right path and avoid any more suspensions.
Things have been very rough for the Grizzlies this year. Not only have their encountered numerous injuries, including a season-ending on to Morant, but they have fallen into a deep hole. They are the 13th seed in the West with a 18-30 record.
