The New York Knicks were without three of their starters on Thursday night, as Mitchell Robinson, Julius Randle, and OG Anunoby all sat out because of various injuries. Despite that, the team was able to beat a fully healthy Indiana Pacers team, winning by four points and earning their ninth straight victory.
Precious Achiuwa and Isaiah Hartenstein were members of the starting five alongside Josh Hart, Donte DiVincenzo, and Jalen Brunson. They both scored 12 points while Achiuwa grabbed 16 rebounds and Hartenstein earned 19. For the last seven games, Achiuwa has averaged 9.9 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game.
Rebounds were the name of the game against the Pacers, especially in the final moments of the game. In the last two-and-a-half minutes, the Knicks grabbed five offensive rebounds, leading to five points. Considering the team won by four points, this was obviously a pivotal part of their success.
The team has been on a roll since trading for Anunoby a few weeks ago. They have been putting up a lot of points and have greatly improved their defensive play too. Jalen Brunson has been as sensational as ever too, including on Thursday night when he scored 40 points to lead the game.
The Knicks have been on the verge of greatness for years now but certain additions have really brought them up to the next level. Many people feel that Anunoby was the final piece of the puzzle and the player who brought everything together but the team was still able to win on Thursday night without him, which shows that the roster is very deep and capable of great things.
