Moments after the Utah Jazz waived him, Otto Porter Jr has officially announced his retirement from professional basketball.
Otto Porter Jr decided to retire from professional basketball at the young age of 30 years old due to physical problems that were nagging him for quite some time now.
Drafted by the Washington Wizards back in 2014, Porter was key for the DC franchise playing along Bradley Beal and John Wall. Together they've shared some success in the Eastern Conference, despite playing against a prime LeBron James.
After six years in Washington, Porter began dealing with some injuries that kept him aside and diminished what he could bring to an NBA team.
In 2022 the Golden State Warriors trusted in him, bringing him along for that sweet championship run in which they defeated Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals. Porter played a substantial role in those playoffs and it ended up earning a ring which makes his career so much sweeter.
For is career, Otto averaged 10.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists and shot 39.7% from beyond the arc.
In his X account (Former Twitter) Porter wrote:
"For the past 11 years, I had the chance to live my lifelong dream of playing in the NBA. That dream was capped by winning an NBA Championship! Unfortunately, my body is not allowing me to play at the level that I expect of myself, and I have therefore decided to retire.”
