It's not the first time that after a close game, coaches or players comments about controversial calls get specially vivid. A few weeks the NBA fined Raptors' coach Darko Rajakovic for his sayings on the free-throw shooting disparity between his team and the Los Angeles Lakers. Now Stephen Curry had something to say about the officiating.
On Saturday night, it was Stephen Curry and Steve Kerr's turn, as the Lakers shot 43 free throws to the Warriors' 16 in the dramatic double overtime win at Golden State.
Kerr tried to address the issue with dry humor to avoid a fine from the league, while Curry was more direct, pointing out the inconsistency in refereeing decisions during the game.
Curry expressed his concern with the lack of consistency in refereeing decisions, mentioning that while he understands that the Lakers aggressively look for fouls, the lack of regularity on both ends of the court is the most frustrating.
The Warriors star hinted that some refereeing decisions during the game were questionable and affected the flow of the game. Curry will likely receive a fine for his comments, while Kerr humorously avoided the same fate.
The Lakers' strategy of attacking the rim and drawing fouls is an integral part of their style of play, especially when they have physical stars like LeBron James and Anthony Davis. The discrepancy in free throws has drawn attention, which could influence referee decisions in future games.
While getting such a disparity in free throws is more difficult in the playoffs, the Lakers must first secure their position in the postseason before addressing this concern.
