ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski informed that the NBA granted a total $12.4 million to the
Memphis Grizzlies to be used until March 11. This comes as a consequence of
Ja Morant, Grizzlies superstar, being ruled out for the season due to a shoulder injury.
Morant just played nine games this season. He was crucial for the team on that stretch, helping them to win 6 of them.
Ja's been the best player for the Grizzlies since he was drafted, back in the 2019 NBA Draft, situation that got him to sign a $197 million max contract with Memphis.
Through those nine games, the superstar point guard averaged 25.1 points and 8.1 assists. But entering 2024 the situation changed.
Ja suffered a subluxation of his shoulder on January 8th. A devastating injury that needed repairing surgery, leaving him out of this campaign. Therefore, the NBA granted the Grizzlies the disabled player exception.
The amount, $12.4 million, can be used on any player entering the last year of his contract, wether it's for a trade, acquisition, or to sign a free agent to a one-year deal.
Morant is expected to be completely recovered for the tip-off of the 2024-2025 NBA Season.
