The Milwaukee Bucks shocked the NBA world when they fired their head coach, Adrian Griffin, a few weeks ago, despite having a winning track record and sitting toward the top of the Eastern Conference standings. Then they surprised everyone again when they hired Doc Rivers to be the new coach of the team.
Rivers was brought to the team because of his vast experience and his ability to manage the young team and its multiple big stars. But since Rivers' hiring, the Bucks have been defeated four times. Their latest loss came on Tuesday night, as the Phoenix Suns beat the Bucks 114-106.
The four losses have many fans across the league questioning online why Rivers was hired. His acquisition of the job was already criticized by some, who noted that he has a very bad track record when it comes to the playoffs, especially in any sort of Game 7 scenario. But now that the Bucks have gotten off to a rough start under Rivers, some people are wondering if he will still have the job in a few months.
The Bucks are now 33-18 for the season and are in third place in the Eastern Conference, sitting behind the Boston Celtics and surging Cleveland Cavaliers.
Their 1-4 record under Rivers is indeed troubling but the team has been battling injury problems too. On Tuesday night, they were without Damian Lillard and Brook Lopez, while Khris Middleton exited the game after landing on Kevin Durant's foot. However, Giannis Antetokounmpo tried his hardest with 34 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists.
A few bad games don't mean the season is lost, and there is a good chance that Rivers is still just adjusting to leading this team and will be able to guide them to success soon. But fans who wanted an explosive start for Rivers' tenure are shaking their heads right now.
