The
New York Knicks power forward
Julius Randle’s latest injury
setback has become a real for the side, not just this season but also for the next
couple of campaigns.
The 29-year-old has recently been ruled out of the remainder
of the campaign after suffering a dislocating shoulder for which he will have
to go through surgery.
The development left the Knicks fans heartbroken, especially
when the team was preparing for an automatic place in the playoffs this season.
With Randle staying out for a considerable amount of time,
the Knicks will have some very interesting calls to make. As things stand, the
Texas-born has two years left on his current contract with the franchise and
the final year extension option is with the player.
It is yet to be seen whether the franchise moves forward
with him in the ranks along with the likes of
OG Anunoby and
Jalen Brunson.
All three were brought together to compile a title-winning
team in the short run but with Randle getting injured at a crucial time, the
plan has somewhat crumbled.
Ideally, the franchise management would have liked to see
all three showcasing their talent in the final push of the campaign so that
they could decide whether all three can fit the bill next season or not. However,
they will now have to make a tough choice without actually witnessing what the
team’s actual potential is in crunch matches.
Randle, before getting injured, was having a fabulous season
where he was contributing 24 points, 9.2 rebounds and five assists per game.
