It may be the end of the road for
Chris Paul and the
Golden State Warriors. Although the legendary point guard and future Hall of Famer has only spent a few months with the team, he may soon be traded to another team before the February 8 deadline.
Warriors insider Anthony Slater was on the
HoopsHype podcast and stated that he thinks Paul could be packing his bags very soon.
“I think it’s a possibility. Part of the reason they traded for him was that optionality,” Slater said. “Part of the appeal of his contract also when they made the move where they traded Jordan Poole for him was the fact that it was expiring. They are moving into this world where are they going to extend Klay Thompson in the summer?”
So far this year, Paul is averaging 8.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 7.2 assists while going 42.4% from the field and 36.1% from the three-point line. With that being said, Paul hasn't played for the team since the start of January because of a hand injury.
The Warriors are in desperate need of some change. They hold a 19-24 record and keep sinking lower and lower in the standings. Their recent loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in double overtime emphasized the fact that the roster needs to be shaken up.
Paul hasn't been horrible with the Warriors but he's also an attractive trade asset that could garner the front office something special. However, he likely wouldn't be the only one leaving. Others, such as Andrew Wiggins and perhaps even Klay Thompson, could be on the move before the deadline.
When Paul came to the Warriors, some fans hoped he'd win his first championship with Steph Curry and his group. Now it looks like he'll have to hunt for his first ring with another team.
