The 2024 NBA
All-Star Weekend will feature a new big time event, something that caught the attention of basketball fans all over the world.
Stephen Curry and
Sabrina Ionescu will clash in a first-ever-three-point contest. The showdown will be taking place on Saturday, February 17th, following the KIA Skills Challenge and the All-Star Three-Point Contest.
According to the information shared by the league, Curry will shoot from the NBA three-point line, using a standard NBA ball. Meanwhile, Ionescu will shoot from the WNBA three-point line, using a WNBA ball.
Both contestants will have four racks of four balls each, complemented by a money ball that adds two points. In addition, a fifth rack with all the money balls will be placed in a location designated by the players, following the traditional format of the three-point contest. It should be noted that both participants will have two exceptional attempts from the Starry Range, each worth three points.
A distinctive aspect of this event is the altruistic participation of the players. Curry will compete for his non-profit organization, Eat.Learn.Play, while Ionescu will compete on behalf of his SI20 Foundation. Prior to the contest, the NBA has already donated to both charities, and State Farm will contribute to the NBA Foundation to support economic empowerment in the black community.
State Farm's donation mechanics are based on its commitment for every standard three-point shot and every money ball made. The company will also make generous donations for every shot from the Starry Range. This corporate social responsibility approach reinforces the charitable dimension of the event, encouraging a positive impact on communities.
In relation to the players' charitable motivations, Curry and his wife expressed last year a determination to unlock the potential of children in their community through Eat.Learn.Play.
For its part, Ionescu's SI20 Foundation seeks to facilitate access to sport for children of diverse backgrounds and abilities, evidenced by its commitment to basketball clinics, as highlighted on its social media.
