Draymond Green shared his opinion when it comes to Doc River's designation to coach the Eastern All-Stars. The 4 time Champion expresed that, despite being fired by the Milwaukee Bucks, Adrian Griffin earned that position by taking the Bucks to the second place in the East and therefore it should be him calling the plays for the East in the next NBA All-Star game.
On "The Draymond Green Show," the Golden State Warriors star expressed his disappointment that Griffin could not coach the East. Green noted that players are still All-Stars even if a trade happens. He believes the NBA should reward Griffin for leading the Bucks to a 30-13 record at the time of his firing.
"If a player was traded today, but he's an All-Star, guess what, he'll still be an All-Star," Green said. "So this guy gets fired a week and a half ago, two weeks ago, why shouldn't he still be coaching the All-Star team? The job was already done, so I don't quite understand that."
Draymond Green used Pascal Siakam as an example of a player who would still be an All-Star despite being traded from the Toronto Raptors to the Indiana Pacers. Siakam was not an All-Star this season, but he is an example of what Green was trying to say.
It's a valid question from Green's point of view, but it should be noted that Adrian Griffin wasn't traded. He was let go by the Milwaukee Bucks, which means he is no longer employed or under contract. Unlike a player who was traded, he is still under contract with a different team.
Griffin's replacement, Doc Rivers, who has a 1-3 record with the Bucks, will be the Eastern Conference coach. Rivers admitted that it was not a good look and that he would talk to NBA commissioner Adam Silver about giving the go-ahead to a different Eastern coach.
