There was a lot of offensive firepower in this game, as 7 of the 10 starters scored at least 20 points. However, it was Jaylen Brown who took over in this one, as he erupted for 37 points to lead the Boston Celtics to a 127-112 victory over the Phoenix Suns at TD Garden.
Both of these teams had championship aspirations coming into this season after making big off-season trades, but their regular season success have been completely different. The Celtics acquired Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis which have boosted the teams production on both sides of the court, which can be seen as they are the top seed in the NBA by a wide margin.
Meanwhile, the Suns traded for Bradley Beal in the summer and formed a new big 3 around him, Kevin Durant, and Devin Booker. Things haven’t gone exactly as planned for them but they still have the star power to win against any team.
That wasn’t the case in this game though, as Jaylen Brown made a statement with a game-high 37 points while hitting 5 three pointers. Jayson Tatum finished with 26 points while Al Horford hit 6 triples and ended with 24 points. Derrick White had 13 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists while Jrue Holiday recorded 9 points and 10 assists.
Phoenix had 4 players score 20 or more points but it wasn’t enough. Devin Booker led the way with 23 points and 7 assists while Bradley Beal chipped in 22 points and 7 dimes. Kevin Durant and Grayson Allen each scored 20 points while Bol Bol provided 10 points off the bench.
The Celtics improve to 52-14 with this win and have officially clinched a playoff spot. They are getting back into a rhythm after an uncommon 2-game losing streak last week, as they have now won 4 games in a row and will look to continue this hot run on Sunday against the Washington Wizards.
The Suns drop to 38-28 with this loss and fall to the 8th seed. They are still in the race for a top 6 seed as they sit just 0.5 games out of the play-in but it will be a tough fight till the end of the regular season. Phoenix is now 5-5 over their last 10 games and they will look to bounce back tomorrow against the Charlotte Hornets.
