"No, I hate losing." Steph is salty Klay stole his free-throw title on the final game of the season ๐
Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson have become more than just teammates during their many years together with the Golden State Warriors. Instead, they have grown so close that they are truly brothers and have built one of the strongest partnerships in the NBA.
But even brothers can butt heads and make fun of one another.
The other day, Thompson surpassed Curry to claim the 2023-24 NBA free-throw percentage title. He went 127-of-137 for the season, notching him 92.7%. Meanwhile, Curry landed 299-of-324, or 92.3%.
After being beaten by Thompson, Curry spoke with the press and spoke about losing to his friend.
"I had no clue," Curry said. "I knew I was up there, percentage-wise, pretty much all year. I think Dame [Lillard] was up there, too. But I had no clue Klay was ineligible until last game, and he made all five. So, shout out to him."
He was then asked if he finds comfort in the fact that he lost the title to his close friend and teammate. Curry's humorous reaction said it all.
"No, I hate losing. Absolutely not," Curry said.
It isn't one of the biggest honors in the NBA but this might give Thompson a much-needed little boost to his ego. All year long, Klay has suffered from a ton of shooting problems and a slew of questions about his skills and future. Being the best at free throws might give him a bit more confidence and belief in himself when the team needs it most.
According to Curry, Thompson also wasn't aware of winning the free-throw title for 2023-24. But when he was informed, he didn't seem too impressed.
"He had no clue, either," Curry said. "He said, 'Ah, that's cool,' and that was the whole conversation."
