Three executives of the other teams
are of the opinion that the
Golden State Warriors will re-sign veteran shooting
guard
Klay Thompson in the summer.
The 34-year-old’s future with his
current franchise remains in doubt as his ongoing contract will come to an end in
the summer and as of now, there has been no contract extension agreed by the
parties.
According to a senior NBA insider
Michael Scotto, as many as three executives of different franchises shared
their opinion that in all likelihood, he will be re-signed by the Warriors once
again.
“Three executives believed
Thompson would get $18-20 million annually, and the other five predicted he’d
get $20-25 million annually,” said Scotto. “Four executives believed Golden
State would ideally try to align Thompson with his fellow “Splash Brother,”
Curry, on a two-year deal.”
Another NBA executive was also
quoted in a report where he stated that in his point of view, Thompson is
valued at around $18-20 million per year.
“I see him at around $18-20
million a year,” an NBA executive said while talking to HoopsHype. “I’m not
sure he’ll accept that because he sees himself much higher. If all offers are
equal, I think he goes back to Golden State. I feel like his relationship with
Steph and being able to play in one place is important to him.”
